Dinner Is On at Old Barn Inn Restaurant

Christmas comes early to the St. Louis-area dining scene with the grand reopening of historic treasure and storied dining space, Old Barn Inn Restaurant, at The Inns at St. Albans. With seasoned restauranteur Beth Williams – formerly of Wildwood’s Table Three – at its helm, the restaurant launches Friday, Saturday and Sunday dinner service on December 6. The venue opens for private parties on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings.

This is the historic heart of The Inns at St. Albans that will once again become the focal point for meals and family gatherings for years to come.

Dating back to 1843 and transformed from utilitarian barn to beloved dining destination in 1928 by Irene Walter Johnson of International Shoe Company family fame, the newly reincarnated Old Barn Inn Restaurant features a farm-to-fork menu that rotates six times a year. “Our approachable menus change regularly to reflect the region and season,” says Williams. “And classic, hand-crafted cocktails are mainstays alongside a finely chosen wine list,” she adds.

In fitting with the demands and expectations of today’s diners, the completely revamped menu features produce, meats and seafood offered in small, sustainable portions with a heavy emphasis on homegrown or locally sourced ingredients. Yet relics of the past – think chink log construction, original woodwork and hardwood flooring – lend authenticity and warmth to the newly overhauled concept.

A sampling of selections to tempt the taste buds includes grilled then smoked salmon, short rib ravioli, chicken and dumplings, and, for the grand finale, pot de creme and toasted marshmallow.

With a main dining room that accommodates 54 diners, the adjacent bar, Tavern Creek Taverns, offers table seating for an additional 11 plus bar seating for nine. The restaurant also features an attached patio. Wood-burning fireplaces abound, inviting guests to enjoy a cocktail and good company fireside.

Herzog envisions hosting gatherings of all sizes at her rustically refined venue, which will be fully bedecked in Christmas splendor for the holiday season. From intimate dinners to large parties, Old Barn Inn Restaurant sets the stage for new family traditions, impressive entertaining and magical moments.
