Wedding season is fast approaching, and The Inns at St. Albans is hard at work readying its grounds and gardens for brides, grooms and revelers with the most discerning taste.

The premiere destination for outdoor weddings in close proximity to St. Louis, Missouri, The Inns at St. Albans presents couples with two unique venues to celebrate their big day – The Old Barn Inn and The Studio Inn. Owner Datra Herzog describes The Old Barn Inn as the “rustically refined” option and The Studio Inn as the “formal, castle-like setting.” The latter dates back to the early 1900s and was designed by renowned architect Theodore Link of St. Louis Union Station fame.

Newlywed Madison (Hill) Picazo, who tied the knot at The Old Barn Inn in fall 2019, says the property was the perfect expression of her Midwestern roots uniting with her now-husband’s European background. “Victor’s family is from all over Europe, so it really felt like the perfect mix of my Missouri upbringing with a European touch.”

“When we visited the venue for the first time,” she adds, “we fell in love with the feeling. It’s as if you are in your own little village with all of the people you love. It was perfect.”

Nestled in the valley, The Old Barn Inn seats 220 comfortably in its outdoor pavilion (54 indoors) and can be reserved for the entire weekend. The site offers a large dance floor, patio area, modern restrooms and a secret rooftop garden. Four adjacent cottages can house as many as 13 wedding attendants, family members and other guests over the course of the weekend.

The Studio Inn, a slightly smaller venue featuring a covered pavilion with seating for 180 (30 indoors), is still available for prime September and October wedding dates in 2020. This site offers hilltop views of the property’s lush and expansive grounds which include a tiered waterfall, burgeoning vineyard and the Missouri River. With accommodations for 12 overnight guests, The Studio Inn also boasts a gourmet kitchen, billiards room, garden and private patio. Couples can reserve the venue for day-of, full-weekend and Sunday weddings.

The Picazos exchanged vows with 150 guests in attendance, and on-site lodging was a huge draw. “We had a lot of guests coming in from out of town and knew finding places for all of them to stay would be difficult. Having the cottages and the option to rent The Farm House was exactly what we needed,” says Madisen. Overlooking the lake and an easy walk to The Old Barn Inn, the three-bedroom Farm House sleeps an additional eight guests.

Brides have the choice of bringing in a wedding planner, but The Inns at St. Albans prides itself on being a full-service facility. All receptions are catered in-house, and couples can choose from seated, buffet and cocktail buffet dinner packages. Madisen did not need the services of a wedding planner, thanks to a mom she credits with having superhero powers. And Herzog and her staff at The Inns, she adds, were kind, accommodating and “always there to guide and encourage us.”

While the Inns provides amazing in-house catering, outside vendors are welcome for other needs. Madisen, for example, brought St. Louis-based Snapdragon Studio in to do the flowers for the ceremony and reception and hired Emily Faith Photography, based out of Southern California where she and her husband currently reside, as her photographer and videographer.

Experience has taught Herzog that May, June, September and October are ideal times for outdoor weddings in the St. Louis area, so she limits bookings to those four months. “We are an outdoor wedding venue, ideal for the bride seeking a gorgeous garden ceremony followed by a reception in a covered pavilion. Yet we can make arrangements in the event of rain,” Herzog notes.

The Picazos married on a sunny, 65-degree day, but portable heaters were dispersed throughout the outdoor pavilion to keep any chill at bay. “Our wedding day was absolutely perfect and everything we could have hoped for,” says Madisen. “If we had to go back and do it again, we would still choose The Inns at St. Albans – and we would recommend it to all of our friends!”

The Inns at St. Albans is currently offering its Perfect 2020 Vision promotion for brides who book a wedding by the end of February 2020. Mention the program for special pricing on weddings in 2020 and 2021. Certain restrictions apply.
