Under the auspices of Penelope Woodhouse, a trained tea sommelier and member of the American Culinary Federation, we’ll dive into the history and culture, the traditions of this longstanding English custom and garner insightful tips for making perfect sandwiches, scones and other sweets teeming with seasonal flavors. Tastes and tea included, of course!

Experience authentic Afternoon Tea service complete with the sweet and savory accoutrements of this timeless tradition that originated in England but, for today, feature the seasonal flavors of our local surroundings. Learn the history and customs of the occasion, then watch as expert instructor Penelope Woodhouse creates a three-course menu of sandwiches, scones and other sweet treats infused with her homegrown botanicals and fall’s bounty.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Botanical culinarian and trained tea sommelier Penelope Woodhouse grows her own edible flowers and culinary lavender. The British native is a member of the American Culinary Federation and has cooked her way through an entire library of afternoon tea cookbooks. She finds inspiration from romantic vintage menus and serving accoutrements. She and her husband founded the Botanical Tea Room, a nonprofit that promotes and preserves the legacy of American tea rooms in Augusta, Missouri.
